La energía mareomotriz ha demostrado ser una fuente de suministro eléctrico viable en aquellas zonas costeras caracterizadas por grandes crecidas y retracciones del mar. La clave está en aprovechar la diferencia que diariamente se da en el nivel de las mareas. El mecanismo básico consiste en almacenar agua en el momento de marea alta y liberarla posteriormente durante la bajamar, de manera de activar a su paso las turbinas generadoras de electricidad. Para que la potencia pueda ser aprovechada de manera eficiente, es necesario que la amplitud de las mareas sea de al menos cinco metros y que exista un golfo que permita el almacenamiento del agua durante la pleamar (marea alta).Sigue leyendo→
