HOLCIM ARGENTINA WILL SUPPLY ITS PRODUCTIVE PLANTS WITH RENEWABLE ENERGY FROM YPF LUZ

Holcim Argentina and YPF Luz signed a significant agreement whose objective is the provision of renewable energy to the cement plants. The event took place at the Holcim plant located in Campana with the presence of Carlos Espina, CEO of Holcim Argentina, Miguel Gutiérrez, President of YPF and Martín Mandarano , CEO of YPF LUZ. Holcim Argentina is the leading company in the construction industry in the production of cement, elaborated concrete, stone aggregates and services for construction.
Supply is scheduled to begin in early 2020, reaching 35% coverage of Holcim’s total energy demand by the end of the first half of that year.
“This initiative is part of our Plan of Sustainable Development 2030, particularly in one of the four areas in which we are working to achieve this, Climate and Energy. Replacing the non-renewable energy currently consumed by wind energy, will help us reach our goal of reducing CO2 generation by 40 % by 2030”, assured Carlos Espina, CEO of Holcim Argentina.
Miguel Gutiérrez, president of YPF, said “Today, we are concluding this agreement for the provision of clean energy with Holcim, that represents a competitive, efficient and sustainable energy solution for a leading company in the industry of construction”. On the other hand, Martín Mandarano, CEO of YPF Luz added “We are very proud of having been chosen reliable partners as regards renewable energy and have strongly committed ourselves to sustainability”.
YPF Luz will supply the energy for Holcim operations from “Los Teros” wind farm located in Azul, province of Buenos Aires. The energy contracted is an annual average of 142 GWh for which it will use 30 MW of installed capacity in the wind park. YPF Luz is a supplier of reliable and sustainable energy for the main companies of the country like Holcim Argentina and is a leading company in the Renewable Energy Term Market (MATER).
With this initiative, Holcim Argentina will produce 1.2 million tons of cement per year with renewable energy, the equivalent of building 105,000 homes or 3,000kilometres of two-lane road, which will allow the company to reduce 63,000 tons of CO2 emissions as thermal energy is replaced by wind energy. The emissions that will be avoided will be equivalent to 60 thousand flights Córdoba- Buenos Aires.
