Bahía Bustamante, Chubut, is a Patagonian paradise that, thanks to solar electrification, has eliminated power cuts, has lowered costs and has preserved its natural reserve.

This argentine company pioneer in the production of equipment for renewable energies presented “ Bahía Bustamante Project”. This project meant the electrification with solar energy of the whole Bay, eliminating in this way the pollution produced by the power units and providing the whole rural and tourist area with clean and permanent energy. Besides, a monitor system was set up that allows both to improve the energy efficiency and to optimize, in real time, the power consumption.
The objective of the project was to provide the area with continuous and uninterrupted electric energy, aiming mainly at the elimination of noise and gas pollution that was affecting the natural reserve and, if possible, to reduce or end the fuel expenditure.
The power supply of the bay depended on the generation of a power unit, with a high oil cost as well as a high noise and gas level that it produced. Bahía Bustamante, located in Escalante department, Province of Chubut, is 180 km north of Comodoro Rivadavia and 259 km south of Trelew. It is the only town in Argentina that is dedicated to the collection of seaweed and mussel farming and a natural reserve in Patagonia where sea lions, penguins and different bird species live together.
So as to carry out this project, ENERGY SOLAR SYSTEM developed together with QMAX a system for the generation and injection of electrical energy. Panels of 330w and solar regulators capable of generating a power of 9,000Wp were used for this project.
For power consumption, 6 QMAX inverters in three-phase configuration that can deliver a power of 24kVA were used. In addition, for days of little or no solar generation, 6 high-efficiency QMAX chargers were installed for recharging the battery banks.
The system as a whole is monitored through the IOT platform of GMAX that allows to study the consumption peaks, monitoring the hours of greater consumption to make an analysis for a better energy management.
“Carrying forward this type of projects more ambitious every time is a great satisfaction for us because there are many benefits for both the area and the client. Nowadays, technology allows us to have clean and efficient energy. We have worked together with QMAX for many years and we stress the reliability of the products and technical support, essential when working in remote places”, states Oscar Toledo, head of SOLAR ENERGY SYSTEM.
