On July 9th, the official inauguration of the GPNK took place in the town of Saliquello, with the presence of the President of the Nation, Alberto Fernandez, the Vice President, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, and the Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa. In August, the injection of natural gas from Vaca Muerta began, which will supply the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area. This will allow injecting 11 million cubic meters of gas into the system, until the compression equipment in Tratayen and Saliqueló are put into operation, at which point it will be capable of transporting 21 million cubic meters per day.
The construction of Section I of the President Nestor Kirchner Gas Pipeline (GPNK) spans 4 provinces. It starts in the town of Tratayén, in Neuquén, and crosses the provinces of Río Negro, La Pampa, and finishes in the town of Salliqueló in the province of Buenos Aires.
This first section connects the GPNK with the Neuba I and II gas pipelines, expanding the capacity for gas transport and distribution throughout the national territory.
With the construction of the GPNK and its connection to the rest of the transportation system, the goal is to gradually achieve self-sufficiency and the replacement of imports, such as LNG from the floating plant at the port of Bahía Blanca.
As Energy Secretary Flavia Royón mentioned, the current priority is the bidding process for the reversal of the Northern Gas Pipeline, which will allow the substitution of imports from Bolivia with gas from Vaca Muerta. She also informed us that the bidding process for Phase II of the GPNK is planned for September, extending the pipeline an additional 467 km from Salliqueló to San Jerónimo in the southern part of Santa Fe.
With Phase I, a transport capacity of 24 cubic meters will be achieved, and upon completion of Phase II, it will reach 40 million cubic meters per day.
The project will provide fiscal and productive benefits that will improve indicators such as employment, production, and energy supply in the country.
