# OLAROZ CHICO, THE FIRST SOLAR VILLAGE IN ARGENTINA

#### **Jujuy, the province with the first solar village of the country**

An autonomous photovoltaic power
plant was inaugurated in Jujuy on 25th January. It will supply the community of
Olaroz Chico with electric energy using 
Lithium -Ion batteries storage, which is an innovative technology that
has turned the village into the first solar one in Argentina .

Qmax, a pioneering company in the
production of equipment for renewable energy, has taken part in this project
design, along with the energy companies of Jujuy, that is, Ejesa, Ejedsa as
well as specialists in VZH batteries .

The self-sufficient system of
renewable energy was jointly designed by engineers from Ejesa, Qmax and
VZH  with the financial support and
management policy of Jujuy government . This system stands as a model for our
country as it is one of the earliest examples in Southamerica of solar
Microgrid with lithium storage.  

Olaroz Chico will be the first
photovoltaic power plant that will generate the necessary energy to supply the
entire community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The Puna Jujeña gathers one
of the largest solar irradiation of the world and holds one of the biggest
natural lithium reserves. That is why it is relevant that the inhabitants of
Olaroz Chico have become pioneers in the use of solar energy with lithium
storage and that national development companies like Qmax and VXH participate
in this project.

The village used a gas-oil generator
which caused high costs, intermittent supply and great pollution. Nowadays ,
silence, clean air and electric energy can be enjoyed. Technology allows the
village to have power independence without any contamination.

“ We will continue producing lithium
and we will make lithium batteries in Jujuy “, stated the governor of Jujuy
Gerardo Morales during the presentation of the Social Pact for the Education.
He confirmed, through this statement , the transformation process of the jujeña
productive  matrix, particularly  the lithium and the renewable energies areas
working together. At this time, he also made strategic announcements regarding the
future educational model and the new productive profile.

Moreover, he mentioned the case of
the Solar Village of Olaroz that is supplied with solar energy and that also stores
energy with a system of lithium batteries. “In this way, we were able to stop
an energy generator that burned oil and with this measure we take care of the
planet “, he emphasized.

He also went further into lithium applications in technological advances that allow the cell phones  operation  “Those who are against the lithium should deliver their cell-phones operating with lithium batteries”, Gerardo Morales stated.
